Chief Judge, Judges, Contest Chair, Contestants and all Assignment Takers please refer to the Contest Manual 2010 for regulations and related info.

Speaker's Certificate of Eligibility and Originality

   Please read it carefully and correctly fill in the information required. All contestants should arrive 10 minutes before the contest to sign the Speaker's Certificate of Eligibility and Originality; and then draw your speech order. Ineligible speakers or un-original speech speakers will be disqualified and, therefore, are not entitled to win an award.

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Please try to arrive earlier so you can help set up the meeting room. You will first manage the reception area before the contest. During the Table Topics Speech Contest you will lead the contestants out of the room except for the contestant No. 1. You have to bring each contestant individually according to their order back into the contest venue after the previous contestant finishes his/her speech.

CONTEST CHAIR and CONTEST MASTER 

Contest Chair is the person who organizes the contest from the beginning to the end. He may find a contest master to host the contest or he can perform the role himself. A Contest master conducts the contest to make sure the process goes smoothly.  

CHIEF JUDGE and JUDGES TEAM 

Chief Judge is the leader for the judges team. He fills out the tiebreaking form to finalize the top three winners. He doesn't vote via regular judge ballots. All judges except for the chief judge will use the contest judge ballot to vote for the top three after the contest. 

 

TARGET SPEAKER

You have the opportunity to get feedback from Evaluation contest contestants. Please inform the contest chair your speech title at least a week before the contest. If you have any special requirements for your speech such as PowerPoint, music, lighting etc, please let the contest chair know in advance.

 

SERGEANT AT ARMS

After five minutes you must take away their notes and then you will bring each contestant individually according to their order back into the room.

 

ASSIGNMENT TAKERS

Speech Contest: Timer's Record Sheet and Instruction 

Please bring a pen or pencil. You will use a stopwatch to keep the time and use the coloured flag/board to signal the time to each contestant. After each contestant's speech you write their time on the Timer’s Record Sheet. This sheet will be given to you at the contest and is very easy to complete. Please review it before the contest. Present the record to the Chief Judge immediately after each session of contest is finished.  

PLEASE KEEP THE TIMES SECRET – if any contestant is disqualified the Chief Judge will announce it during the award ceremony.

Ballot Counter's Tally Sheet 

Please bring a pen or pencil. At the end of each contest you collect the ballots from the Judges. So know where each judge sits is a must. You must then leave the room and score each speaker’s points on the Counter’s Tally Sheet; this sheet will be given to you at the contest and is very easy to complete. Please review it before the contest. You must count each ballot two times to make sure the total is correct. Once you finish counting, please present the result to the Chief Judge Immediately for the final judgement.

PLEASE KEEP THE SCORES SECRET – Any Speech Contest will only have a First Place, a Second Place and a Third Place Winners, Evaluation Contest will have a First, a Second Place, and a Third Place Winners. If the contestants are less or only three contest. The first and the second place winners award will be presented.
