What is Toastmasters International?
Toastmasters International (TMI) is the leading movement devoted to making effective oral communication a worldwide reality. TMI is a non- profit organization dedicated to the communication and leadership training. In 1924, Dr. Ralph Smedly founded this organization in California to help people learn the arts of speaking, listening and thinking-vital skills that promote self-actualization and enhance leadership potential. Since then, there are almost 10,000 clubs, more than 3000,000 members benefit from TI around the world.

Toastmasters in Taiwan
In Taiwan, the first Toastmasters club( Taipei Toastmasters club) was established in 1958. The governing body of Toastmasters on Taiwan is the ROC Territorial Council of Toastmasters located in Taipei. Over the last 40 years, we have more than 64 clubs island-wide. The majority of the clubs are English clubs, with a few Taiwanese, Japanese and Mandarin clubs. Our members come from all walks of life, managers, teachers, trainers, professors, salespersons, doctors, civil servants, students and housewives. We have a diversified membership of many different nationalities. The clubs are public clubs, company clubs, community clubs and university clubs. Our sole purpose is to gain personal growth through the training of communication and leadership skills in a positive environment.
