Steve Tung Memorial
From: Senior Toastmasters

Dear Fellow Toastmasters

It has been about a year since Steve Tung, DTM passed away. As such it is a good time to look back at his legacy. This legacy comes from his basic goodness as a human being and his efforts and energy on behalf of Toastmasters everywhere in Taiwan.

Below are some of the thoughts collected by Harry Fong DTM who, like many others, worked with Steve in Toastmasters. Hopefully they give us a glimpse into the heart of Steve Tung and into the hearts of people he helped to lift up.

In my mind, Steve pops up with his usual broad smiles, passionate energy and fun vigor of a veteran Toastmasters in Taiwan. How lovely and easy to remember ! In Smiles,
Effie Liu

Steve Tung is a devoted Toastmasters and leader who contributed to shape Toastmasters community in Taiwan. His passion and unselfish services have benefited hundreds of Toastmasters in Taiwan. Although he is no longer with us, his endeavors to bring people together to do the right things will always be our role model. Salute to him, our forever hero in Toastmasters. Sincerely, Justice Liao

Steve set a good example of a friendly, humble, and inspiring leader.
May his spirit stays with us forever.
Alex Chandra

He was a nice leader far more than words description. But he understood me pretty well and gave me a lot of chances to upgrade my competence.
Vera Chang

Steve made a lot of contribution to Toastmasters, he was a hero with a smiling face.
Teresa Kuo.

It's a pity that I don't know Steve Tung well, but the big smile on his face is one thing I can't never forget. From Janice Hsu

Steve's passion and energy in helping others fulfill their life through TM training has always been an inspiration to TM members. What he has done for the TM environment in Taiwan is certainly a great legacy to Legacy Toastmasters Club! Warmly, Sue Chien, DTM

A goal-oriented, active, positive, aggressive and marvelous team leader deserved all the compliments senior! Rest In Peace!
Sterling Hsiao, DTM

His passion, devotion and smiling face always bring very positive influence in Legacy TM club. Definitely a respectable role model for all Toastmasters here in Taiwan.
James Hwang, DTM

A devoted, enthusiastic and contributed Toastmasters. He is a milestone for all TMCs. We expect Steve Tung will join in David Chen to organize a great TMC team in the heaven...encouraging, facilitating, enhancing people with passion to all Toastmasters.
Linker Lin, DTM

Steve was a man with passion and determination! He was the one who first invited me to to be the Area C2 Governor and from that point I eventually became the District Governor! I should never forget his encouragement and smiling face!
Mike Yang, DTM

Past district governor, Steve Tung passed away on April 7,2014 morning due to heart attack.
Steve Ting was a dedicated toastmaster with great passion and he contributed a lot to toastmasters circle. When Legacy toastmasters club was weak and he came to support and rebuild the club. Later he served as club president, division governor, district governor. He earned his DTM title and won the year of toastmaster twice. He had an amazing achievement in toastmasters community. I felt shocked by knowing his sad news. Now he is in Heaven. Steve Tung, your name and spirit will be remembered forever by many friends.
Harrison Lee, DTM

It was a shock that Steve Tung left us at such an early age. This is not only a big loss to Legacy, but also to District 67. Steve was a leader of action ¡V he joined the club in 1998 and got his DTM title in less than 3 years. He served as Legacy club President in 2000 and later became District Governor in 2006. His famous motto was: "A true leader creates leaders, not followers". Steve, you have my salute!
Harry Fong, DTM

Steve had always been my strength to move forward whenever the journey is rough and tough. He was always there encouraging, inspiring and motivating me.
Please help us to convey our condolences and deepest sympathy to his family members.
John Lau, DTM
International President 2012-2013

I did not know Steve that well. But I feel like I know him better through the shared thoughts and shared love of people I admire and respect - the Toastmasters Steve inspired and changed. It is a great thing to be admired and appreciated so much by so many people.
Don¡¦t rest Steve. Keep growing, keep leading others to better lives where ever you may be.
Regards, Mike Woods

Now is a good time to hold Steve in your heart for a few moments. Through all Toastmasters the qualities, that Steve carried with him and shared with others, these qualities can continue to shine forth through the lives of everyone still working with an attitude of service and leadership.

Dear Leaders,

I was shocked and sad to learn the death of Steve Tung ¡V a past District Governor (2006-2007) and outstanding leader of our District.

According to Vincent Chu, president of Legacy Toastmasters Club, Steve Tung suffered a heart attack and passed away on April 7. Please see the mail from Vincent as attached.

Having learned of his death, many Toastmasters members expressed their sorrow for losing such a good friend ¡V a most crazy, warmhearted, passionate, and devoted member in our District.

So far no member in our District has broken his record of winning the DTM Award in two and a half years. They say in those years he attended 7 clubs and went to Toastmasters meetings almost every day, and in those years he was very enthusiastic in serving the clubs and the District.

The winning of 2000-2001 Toastmaster of the Year Award and 2003-2004 Division Governor of the Year Award were the best approval of his contribution to our District.

For District 67 I¡¦d like to express the deepest condolence to the bereaved for the loss of Steve Tung. And for Steve Tung I¡¦d like to say: ¡§Thanks, Steve. Your spirit of learning from and serving the Toastmasters would always stay in our minds. Please stay in peace.¡¨

Sincerely,

Y.S.Liao

Dear Club President Vincent,

How are you doing ?  My name is John Lau, a toastmaster in Malaysia.

I was shocked and surprised  to learn the passing of my friend Steve Tung.

Steve and I had been friends since we met back in 2004 at Toastmasters International Convention in Reno, USA.

I admired his way of connecting with people, always smile, spoke little but do lots of work.

Steve had always been my strength to move forward whenever the journey is rough and tough.

He was always there encouraging, inspiring and motivating me.

Please help us to convey our condolences and deepest sympathy to his family members.

Thank you so much Vincent.
