The valuable experience in my life    吳明祐

In March, 2005, I left Taipei, where I used to work. I temporarily lived in my brother's home in Taichung. Soon after I arrived in Taichung, I was eager to find Toastmasters clubs here. Therefore, I joined Beast and Wheelers Toastmasters clubs to be a dual member. The temporary rest from job allowed me to spend more time dedicating to Toastmasters clubs. And I could study English more.

At that time, Beast's members were busy at work and no one could take the EVP job. Since I had more free time, I took the heavy duty. At the beginning, I had doubted about myself as I couldn't even speak fluent English. How could I do the EVP job well? After thinking it over, I decided to follow the Toastmasters' spirit. Maybe I cannot do the job well at the beginning; however, many senior members can support me and as long as I strive to work hard, I will be able to do it well eventually. Therefore, I gritted my teeth and accepted the EVP job.

At the beginning of the new term, I was a little bit fatigued and exhausted. On the one hand, my English is not proficient enough, and on the other hand, I needed to find out the details of EVP job. In the first several months, I spent lots of time studying English. And I learned the communication and leadership. After half a year, I was gradually familiar with the job, and made big progress in English. Therefore, I began to feel that being EVP is a happy thing to me. Although the job is heavy, I could still manage it well. By writing and replying a lot of emails, my English composition improved a lot. So it proves the Toastmasters' learning manner – at first we accept a tough job that challenged our ability; however, after learning by doing, we can do the job in a satisfactory way and pass the job to next term's officer. It's also the Toastmasters' learning curve.

This year I got along with Beast members well. I find that Beast is a special club seldom seen. Members are all very vigorous and active, such as some island-wide stars like Joanna, Sheila, and Monica. Members help members succeed. Humorous and fun atmosphere is also valued. In the meeting, it is always full of fun and laughter. Beast style is making meetings hilarious. To have fun is a promise at Beast. Sometimes I join Beast's KTV parties and outings. Members are not only my friends, but also my mentors in my life. It's said that running a club well requires four F's– fun, fellowship, fulfillment and faith. I feel Beast has done the four well. No wonder Beast is a good and famous club in Taichung area.

A few weeks ago, I was accepted by a company in Taipei. Now I have to leave again and hand over my duty to next officer, Jim Chiu. I believe Jim will do better than I did, and Beast will be more prosperous than before. This year is the happiest year in my life, and I have made many good friends here. No matter how busy I will be, I will always continue my toastmasters' growing road. And I will do my best to let more people know, join and benefit from Toastmasters.
