I love you!!

Do you still remember the last time you said these to your daddy?

Maybe 30 years ago when he gave you a gift on your birthday.Maybe this morning before you went to work.

About me, last time I borrowed 5 thousand dollars from him. I didn㦙 return, and he also forgot it.

So I said璌addy, I love you!?

In fact, I don㦙 even remember whether I𠐔e told him these words in my life.We are a very traditional Asian family, that𠏋 why we𠆫e a little bit cold to each other.

For example, unlike my sister, giving him hand-made birthday cards in envelopes, I only gave him cash in envelopes.

My mom told me?Hey, you should do something to let him know you love him.?

Do something? Huh ?

If I suddenly say 鐈ey, daddy, I love you!? he must think I am going to borrow 5 thousand dollars again.

But I just put this question aside and moved on.

My dad was a heavy smoker. He𠏋 always like this.

Obviously , his health was getting worse.

Around 10 years ago, his face turned dark purple and slept all day.

You probably know what was going on, right?

(someone answers: lung cancer!)

exactly

So we took him for a full health check-up.

After a long and complicated medical test,we were ready to brace the bad news.

But the doctor saidDon㦙 worry, he doesn㦙 have lung cancer.

And we are likeHu~~~ Thank god

(The doctor said)He got liver cancer!

Wow.Liver cancer

You can't imagine how tough the treatment was.

Going to the hospital everyday, endless examinations. The point was, we didn't know whether he could recover or not , and how many days he had ?

One day, while we were walking to the hospital, suddenly he stopped

(My dad)Kid, it𠏋 ok, we just give up. You did enough for me.

At this moment

I was about to cry, but I held back my tears.

An inner voice saidNO, I will do something.

Luckily, life finds its way out.

A doctor was willing to do the liver operation for him.

he saidLook, you have two choices:

One, waiting for someone𠏋 donation. But, it takes time. Or, one of you donates your own. Make your choice.(Doctor walk away)

Do something!

The same voice in my heart, so I saidHey DOC!!

Take mine!

The night before the operation,

Dad walked into my room.

(Dad sat beside me and said) Kid, I owe you so much, thank you.

(Dad put his hand on my shoulder)

He put his hand on my shoulder.

The last time I felt his hand was when I was 8

His hand was still big, but now so weak .

But I saidCome on. You give me all my life, I just give you half my liver .

What a bargain!

The next day, in the operation room, a doctor looked at me and saidHey, see the mask, you breathe 3 times and then you will fall into a deep deep sleep, are you ready?

I No problem , come on!

DoctorOk, count to three. One

I (breathe) ZZzzzzz

Liar!!

I still remember you Dr. Chang.

10 hours later, when I opened my eyes, I saw my mom and sister standing by me.

They look so worried.

I was so weak, so I asked: Am I in paradise?

Mom saidNo, honey, that𠏋 a stupid question. With tears in her eyes.

I said: So happy, finally …. I did something!

Mom and sister couldn㦙 stop crying.

At this moment, I truly understand this is my way to say ?I love you?to my dad.

Love is invisible. So it doesn㦙 matter how we show it, but it does matter whether we show it.

A hand-made birthday, cool. A fresh liver, fantastic. Or just ?I love you ?in the morning before work.

Just do something to show love.

My dad and I still don㦙 say 𨧻 love you?to each other.

But we feel our love is stronger, deeper

I don't even have to any words,

because now, 鐈e lives on my liver?

My fellow Toastmaster members, do you remember the last time you said I love you to someone you love?

Is there anyone who needs your love?

Maybe not your liver, I mean

So,please say something, show something

and do something!
