整整一年的時間，我只要碰到人就會用英文和人家打招呼，想盡辦法自己製造練習英文的環境。雖然我把挪威奧斯陸的演講稿，出國前已經演練超過一千次以上，2002年的初試啼聲亦獲得熱烈的迴響與好評，與會的先進國家都相當驚訝，台灣居然可以提出這麼優秀的研究成果！

但是我深知如果要把祐生研究基金會好的理念，不斷地、精準地向國外傳遞，讓台灣在國際社會上可以占有重要的一席之地，我就必須不斷提升英文演講能力！直到2008年，有一次搭飛機的時候，坐在我旁邊的人看到我一直學英文，就主動告訴我既然你這麼有興趣學英文，要不要參加Toastmasters？經過進一步深談，我才了解原來他是一位在大學教授口譯的教授。

得到這個訊息之後，我馬上搜尋Toastmasters，並經過實際考察後，發現Joy club 的人都非常熱情，於是在2008年加入Joy club。自從加入之後，謝謝大家不斷給我磨練英文的機會及職位，才能在2019年拿到貨真價實的DTM。Toastmasters確實是一個培養領袖的搖籃，它是一個有規模的國際組織，擁有完整的訓練課程編排與領導培育系統，只要你跟隨這樣的系統，一步一步腳踏實地的走過來，相信你一定會成為頂尖的領導人，更能擁有流利的英文演講能力！

最後，我要感謝所有在這個過程中，陪我一起走過的Joy club members 以及我的家人與公司的同事，有你們在身邊，將來我在國際舞台上做英文演講，一點也不會寂寞，謝謝大家！

The Passionate and Enduring Journey to Becoming a DTM

I want to track back seventeen years! In 2002, as the Secretary General of Archilife Research Foundation, I spoke on behalf of Taiwan in Oslo, Norway. The speech covered topics such as climate change and ecological environment, and the English vocabulary used was very difficult. I studied in Taipei First Girls High School, and the general impression is that the students are good at English. However, after I was admitted to the Law Department of National Taiwan University, I had to study German because our country’s legal system follows the civil law system from Germany. That’s why I lacked intensive study in English, delivering a speech in English at international occasions was still a great challenge.

Unwilling to accept defeat, I took on this task in order to let Taiwan’s idea of the climate change and ecological environment be recognized, affirmed and appreciated by the international community. I never gave up any opportunity to practice speaking English. For a whole year, whenever I meet someone, I’d say hello in English and try my best to create an English-speaking environment. I rehearsed the Oslo speech more than a thousand times before going abroad and the first English presentation in 2002 received enthusiastic compliments and praises. Those participants from the developed countries were quite surprised that Taiwan could actually put forward such excellent research results!

 Nevertheless, I am fully aware that if we want to spread the developed ideas of Archilife Research Foundation to foreign countries continuously and accurately and let Taiwan occupy an important place in the international community, I must constantly improve my English speaking skills! One day in 2008, when I was on a plane, the person sitting next to me saw that I had been learning English and told me that since I was so interested in learning English, would I like to participate in Toastmasters? After further in-depth chat, I found that he was a professor who taught interpreters in the university. I immediately looked-up Toastmasters, and after some research I found that the members of Joy club were very enthusiastic, so I joined the Joy club in 2008.

 I thank all of you for constantly giving me the opportunity to sharpen my English skills and eventually received the Distinguished Toastmasters award in 2019. Toastmasters is indeed a cradle for training leaders, it is a large-scale international organization with complete training courses and a leadership development system. As long as you follow such a system, step by step, I believe that you will become a top leader, and speak English more fluently.

Finally, I would like to thank all the Joy club members who have accompanied me in this process, as well as my family and company colleagues. With you, I’ll not be alone to speak English on the international stage in the future. Thank you all!
