Mentoring  
   
1. What is a mentor in a Toastmaster Club?
  A mentor is a senior member who takes a personal interest in and helps an inexperienced member to learn and grow in the club.
 
2. As a mentor, what can you do to help your mentees?
  (1). Sit with and orient the new member to Club customs and procedures.
  (2). Explain how to sign up.
    (a). Ask the VPE to schedule the mentee's Ice Breaker speech as soon as possible.
    (b). Advise the mentee to make out his/her year plans such as which months to deliver speeches, etc. and to contact the VPE about signing up for meeting roles.
  (3). Help with the speeches and other assignments
    (a). Help the mentee overcome fears and get off to a good start.
    (b). Discuss speech ideas with the mentee and offer suggestions for organization if necessary.
    (c). Listen to the mentee practice the speech and offer feedback.
  (4). Make mentee aware of resources.
    (a). Point out the material in the Toastmaster Magazine or Club's library.
    (b). Inform him/her of Area, Division, and District activities and invite them to participate. They include trainings, contests, and conventions.
  (5). Explain responsibilities and invite mentees to become officers.
    Membership requires more than just giving speeches and receiving evaluations. It also means a commitment to helping the Club and its members be successful.
